Quotes[]

  • Al: Your turn, Peg.
  • Peg: Oh, no, Al! I can't! She's watching me! The minute I get up there, she's gonna bet that I can't strike like she did and she'll be right. It'll be just like high school all over again!
  • Al: Peg, I'm looking at both of 'ya! Believe me, it won't be like high school!
  • Peg: Eh, I don't know, I kiss you and I kiss you, and you're still a frog.

  • Marcy: So, what's going on?
  • Peg: I'm a little down tonight. I ran into an old friend that I hate more than life. Did you ever go to school with someone who does everything just a little bit better than you do?
  • Marcy: Barb Linhart!
  • Peg: What?
  • [Marcy walks over to the coffee kettle in the kitchen and pours a cup for herself]
  • Marcy: My rival was Barb Linhart. It started in kindergarten. I let Don Thuddy kiss me on the cheek...[puts the kettle down] She showed him her underpants. [walks to the kitchen table and sits down] First day of gym, I was wear a t-shirt... she was wearing a bra. I finally had a chance to beat her at our high school reunion. [upbeat] I couldn't wait! I had a great job, a terrific husband and I lost ten pounds. [depressingly] Then she went and died a tragic death and that's all that anyone could talk about...[mockingly] "Poor Barb... Poor Barb". [bitterly] They could less that I was a success! [picks up the chunk of Mimi Stoatz's hair that Peg left on the table and fiddles with it] Her decapitation got all of the attention! [slams the chunk of hair down] It was so Barb! God, I hate her!

  • Steve: Uh, listen, Bud, are your folks in? I wanted to ask them if I could be an adopted Bundy. That would help explain my hygiene, grammar and full set of teeth.

Trivia[]

  • Deborah Harmon, who plays Peggy's rival, Mimi, would later appear again on MWC as another rival of Peggy, June Morgan, in the season 10 episode, "The Joke's on Al".
  • This episode shows the first time the Bundys' perform the "Whoa Bundy!" cheer.
  • Marcy mentions that she went to her high school reunion and had a great job and husband. As she and Steve were married in February 1987 and this episode likely takes place around November 1987, this would imply that she went sometime after the end of Season 1 and possibly after "If I Were a Rich Man" when she got her new job at Kyoto National Bank.
    • This would also imply that Marcy is about 28 years old in this episode, as Amanda Bearse was about 29 years old when this episode originally aired.
  • This is the first episode where Kelly refers to Bud as "Budrick". She would use the name to address him in several more episodes.

Cultural References[]

  • Bud tells Kelly that he used the money for bowling lessons to instead buy a lifetime pass to the Pussycat Theater, a chain of adult movie theaters based in California that were popular from the 1960s to the 1980s. As of 2003, only one still remains in existence.

Goofs[]

  • Among other errors on the bowling score sheet, Al is shown with a 140 in the 7th frame. The scorecard shows he bowled a strike in the 8th and a spare in the 9th. In the 10th frame, with the game on the line, he bowls 2 strikes and a zero, which would give him a total score of 200. A few minutes later in the episode, Al says "I still bowled a 175!"
  • Bud tells Kelly that he has a lifetime pass to the Pussycat Theater. Besides the obvious fact that he is a minor and would not be allowed inside in the first place, the theater chain never expanded outside of California.
  • When Kelly arrives to the bowling alley, the left light on the scorers table is on. Seconds later, they show a close ups of Peg/Kelly, and Bud and it’s turned off. They then show the three of them together, and it’s back on again. Then when she distracts Roscoe, it’s off again.
