Born To Be Wild is a 1968 song performed by the rock band, Steppenwolf. The song is commonly associated with motorcycle culture, as it is prominently featured in the 1969 biker film Easy Rider.
Use on Married with Children[]
It is heard in the season 1 episode, "Have You Driven a Ford Lately?" during two fantasy scenes. As Al and Steve bond while looking over the 1965 Ford Mustang they bought and are rebuilding. After talking about what it meant to own a car and how a Mustang can make anyone look cool, they each have their own fantasy about the car.
In Steve's fantasy, he drives the car down a long stretch of road with Al in the passenger seat. They give each other a look of satisfaction as they drum along to the song and enjoy the drive.
In Al's fantasy, he is driving down the same road but is accompanied by two beautiful women in bikinis. They all smile and laugh as they touch and kiss him. Eventually, they see a desperate Steve on the side of the road. trying to hitch a ride. As they get closer they all wave to Steve, and eventually drive past him, leaving him shocked. They continue to wave to him before the blonde woman hugs Al as they reach the curve.
Later, as they are about to go out to dinner with their wives in the finally completed Mustang, they both sing the chorus of the song out loud. Finally, the chorus is heard once more as an injured Al stays home while the others go out for dinner.
Lyrics[]
Get your motor runnin'
Head out on the highway
Looking for adventure
In whatever comes our way
Yeah, darlin', go and make it happen
Take the world in a love embrace
Fire all of your guns at once
And explode into space
I like smoke and lightnin'
Heavy metal thunder
Racing with the wind
And the feeling that I'm under
Yeah, darlin', go and make it happen
Take the world in a love embrace
Fire all of your guns at once
And explode into space
Like a true nature's child
We were born, born to be wild
We can climb so high
I never wanna die
Born to be wild
Born to be wild
Get your motor runnin'
Head out on the highway
Looking for adventure
In whatever comes our way
Yeah, darlin', go and make it happen
Take the world in a love embrace
Fire all of your guns at once
And explode into space
Like a true nature's child
We were born, born to be wild
We can climb so high
I never wanna die
Born to be wild
Born to be wild
