Married with Children Wiki

Casados con Hijos (Married with Children), also known as Casados con Hijos México , is a Mexican adaptation of the American sitcom Married... with Children. It originally aired on the Sony Channel in May 2024. Beginning on September 6, 2024, the Miami-based streaming service, Vix acquired the exclusive international broadcast rights to the series, making it available to watch in the United States with English subtitles.

The first season debuted in May 2024, with a total of 20 episodes. The second season began airing on May 11, 2025.

It is the fifth MWC remake from Latin America and the fifth Spanish-language adaptation, following the versions from Columbia, Argentina, Chile, and Spain.

Background[]

Like the other MWC remakes, the Mexican version followed the plot, gags, and dialogue of the original scripts closely. Many of the changes that were made reflect the modern world and Mexican culture, such as:

  • Changing the characters' names to Spanish based names.
  • Using terms and phrases that are unique to Mexican Spanish. Examples include:
    • Jonathan addressing his parents as "jefe" and "jefa" (lit. "boss", an informal way to address one's own parents). He also refers to his mother more often as "Señora" (lit. "Madam", a formal and respectful way to address an older woman). [1]
    • "¡Órale!" ("Come on", "Wow", "Hey" or "Alright", depending on context), [2]
    • "Ay cabrón" (Used to express shock, akin to "Oh, geez" or "Oh, shit", with "cabrón" literally translating as "Goat" and having several different meaning depending on context)
    • "Pinche" (used as an adjective to describe something as insignificant or of low quality or as a way to enhance an insult. An example is when Luis refers to the family dog as "pinche perro pulgoso" or "damn/fucking flea-bitten dog". In Spain, the word actually refers to a scullion or a kitchen worker who is assigned to menial tasks) [2]
    • "¡No Manches!" (lit. "Don't Stain") and its more vulgar form "¡No Mames!" (lit. "Don't Suckle"), both are used to express disbelief, disappointment, or outrage, similar to "No way!", "Damn it!", "Are you serious?", or "Stop joking around", depending on context.) [3][4]
    • "Chingar", (lit. "To Fuck") which is one of the most commonly used slang expressions in Mexican Spanish is used often. Though despite its sexual origin, the term can be used in non-sexual ways to describe a deplorable place or condition or that something is annoying or bothersome.[5]
  • Additionally, due to Mexico's proximity to the southern United States, the increase of foreign tourists, the internet/social media, and English being the most studied foreign language in the country, English words are also used often, such as "Backstage", "Morning", "Okay", "Influencer", "Hello", "Bye", "Aspirational Marketing", "Likes", "Sleeping Bag", "Freelance", "Closet", and "Bros". In one instance, Steve greets the kids in English by saying "What's up, bros?!" in an American accent while making the "Rock on" hand gesture.
  • The use of modern technology that did not exist during MWC, such as smartphones, self-serve kiosks, social media, and air fryers.
  • Unlike Peggy Bundy, Angie is an entrepreneur who uses social media to sell her fashion brand and earn money for herself, though she still manages to ignore doing household chores, shopping for groceries, or being a good mother and wife.
  • Unlike the other Spanish language adaptions, Poncho is depicted as having played American Football in his younger years like Al Bundy, whereas the other adaptations depict the leading male as having played fútbol (soccer) before their career was ended. Though, it should be noted that Poncho is also passionate about fútbol, as he is shown with an Atlante Fútbol Club jersey.
  • Gary's Shoes & Accessories for Today's Woman is changed to Andi's Zapatos para la mujer de hoy (Andi's Shoes for Today's Woman)
  • The game show that the Bundys and Rhoades went on, How Do I Love Thee? is changed to ¿Qué tan grande es tu amor? (How Big is Your Love)
  • In the pilot episode, Poncho explains that he puts his hand down his pants due to the effects of COVID-19 which cost him his sense of smell, before suddenly pulling it out and asking Angie to smell it for him.
  • Instead of the 1965 Mustang, Poncho and Steve buy a 1973 Vocho Clasico (The Mexican name for the VW Beetle).
  • When Poncho meets the stewardesses at Luis' apartment, he kisses the first one on the cheek only once. She then explains that since she is from Spain it is supposed to be two kisses. He then does the two kisses when the other stewardess arrives.
    • While kissing on the cheek as a greeting is common throughout Hispanic culture, in Spain, it is done twice with both cheeks, while in Mexico (and most other Latin American countries) it is only done on one side. More specifically, in Mexico, kissing on the cheek is not as common and is typically reserved for family and close friends, while in Spain and other Latin American countries, it can be done with new acquaintances or even in a business setting and may even be followed up with a hug.[6][7][8]
  • In several episodes, the characters can be seen eating food from the American fast food chain, Carl's Jr., with the restaurant's logo being prominently visible in the scene. This can also be seen as an example of more modern day product placement, which was not as common during MWC 's original run.

Story[]

The story focuses on the Olivares, a typical middle-class Mexican family, made up of shoe store manager, Alfonso 'Poncho' Olivares, his lazy housewife Angie and their children, Alexa and Jonathan 'Piquilín' Olivares. Each of these members has quite peculiar personalities, and they can barely live with the little money that comes to their house, which makes them a very dysfunctional and chaotic family.

They soon meet their new neighbors, María de Lourdes and Esteban de la Madrid, who will accompany them in some moments full of comedy and everyday life.

Characters[]

Olivares Family[]

  • Poncho Olivares - The patriarch of the family. He is a forty-something year old middle-class man who works as a manager at a shoe store, a job that he truly hates. He is conservative and sexist, saying what he thinks without any filter, but also has a noble heart. He is often manipulated by his wife Angie and his daughter Alexa, who dream of luxury and fortune despite the family's lack of money. Similarly, he is passionate about sports cars, but satisfied with the life he leads, even though he doesn't have enough money. He loves sports, particularly fútbol/soccer, (specifically, he is fan of Alante F.C.) and American football, as he was a former American football player (serving as the quarterback for the National Polytechnic Institute of Mexico Burros Blancos from 1991 to 1994), but is frustrated that he is no longer playing. He wants to learn English to one day become a sports coach. A sarcastic father, with a lot of humor, basic and who believes he owns the truth!
  • Angie Olivares - The matriarch of the family. She is a forty-something year old middle-class woman who is attractive, intelligent and entrepreneurial. She is the wife of Poncho and mother of Alexa and Jonathan. She is doing better financially than her husband, despite not having a job. She acts as if her beauty and feminine charm are fading away and also has a deep seated fear of being replaced by a younger girl. She feels sexually frustrated, does not know how to cook and does physical exercise to maintain her body. She is a very spiritual woman, she loves palm readings, coffee and tarot readings. She dreams of having been a soap opera actress and wants to have her own sportswear brand to sell in Europe and organize fashion shows. In her youth, she acted in commercials, because she did not like studying or having a fixed routine. An elusive, slender, graceful, sensual, faithful woman with bad taste in fashion!
  • Alexa Olivares - The daughter and oldest child. An 18-year-old girl who studies modeling, she is beautiful, sensual, daring and ambitious. Alexa wants to be and do everything her mother couldn't. Her greatest wish is to be born in Beverly Hills with a lot of fame, money and luxuries. She wants to move out of the neighborhood and to make it happen, she creates content on social media with which she is able to capitalize on. She likes to experiment in her sexual life with men who do not belong to the community because she aspires to have high-class beaus. She is a combination of charm, determination, sensuality, character and willingness to achieve her life goals!
  • Jonathan Olivares - The son and youngest child. A 14-year-old teenager who is messy, loud, witty, sarcastic like his father and the most affectionate of the family. He is a gamer who holds several records. He hates bathing, doesn't care about his physical appearance and focuses on learning how to conquer women. He is enchanted by girls older than him and he dreams of inheriting a great fortune to avoid working and surround himself with pretty girls. His main hobby is to annoy her sister Alexa and blackmail her. It's a mix of wit, laziness, irony, but also a lot of love to give!
  • Solovino - The family pet. A rescued, middle-aged dog who lived on the streets for a long time. Poncho found him, petted him and he followed him to what is his current home. He has several children scattered in the town and other locations. He doesn't like to leave the house, unless it's to mate. He is a glutton, intelligent and grateful. He dreams of being able to sleep next to the bed of his master, Poncho, and to mate with purebred dogs. A loyal and fun companion like his family!

De La Madrid Family[]

  • Marilú de La Madrid - The Olivares new neighbor, Angie's friend, and Poncho's arch-nemesis. A woman in her thirties, recently married and without children, with many doubts about having them because she wants to enjoy her relationship. She is conservative, Catholic, perfectionist, believer in good morals and repressed by her religious upbringing. She moved to the neighborhood to live near her job, she is an executive account director at a bank. She hates soccer and everything that her neighbor, Poncho, likes. She is a fan of Puerto Rican pop singer and actor, Chayanne, and dreams of having a night of passion with him. She hopes to free herself from those thoughts that prevent her from bringing out the daring woman that she carries inside her. A woman full of fears, desires and doubts!
  • Steve de La Madrid - The Olivares new neighbor, Marilú's husband, and Poncho's newest friend. A man in his thirties and an accountant by profession, he works as a manager at the same bank as his wife. He lives a rather monotonous life and has several fears. He has a weak character, due to his his wife's dominating personality. He doesn't drink liquor or smoke, he doesn't go out with friends, and only dedicates himself to work and his marriage; He is the prototype of the dream man. Additionally, his parents had decided everything in his life, from his education to his way of eating and even his partner. He can be described as a stereotypical "Whitexican" (a pejorative term in Mexico that refers to upper-class White Mexicans who have educational, economic and social advantages compared to those with darker skin) He is a friend of Poncho, as they both share a passion for soccer. He also tries to relate to Johnathan and Alexa, sometimes calling them "Bros" or "Johnny Boy", though it usually ends up in awkward silence. He dreams of living his life to the fullest, meeting women, having fun, riding a motorcycle, getting tattooed and leaving behind the corporate world and mundane life that he leads. A controlled man with a great thirst to release his true essence!

Others[]

  • Luis Ventura - Poncho's co-worker, who also considers himself to be his best friend. A very handsome but simple guy, with a lot of desire to work and get ahead in his career. He often uses his looks and charm to hook up with women.
