Cleto Augusto (September 1, 1954 - April 25, 2015) was an American actor, writer, producer and business owner.
On Married... with Children, he played the director for the Ice Hole beer commercial in the season 9 episode, "Kelly Breaks Out".
Early Life[]
Cleto was born in Newark, New Jersey on September 1, 1954. He attended St. Francis Xavier Grammar School in Newark. In 1968, he and his family moved to Long Branch, where he attended Christian Brothers Academy. He graduated with the Class of 1972. He then went on to earn a degree in Business at Monmouth College in 1976.
After college, Cleto moved to Chicago, Illinois where he lived for 10 years. He worked for Dunn & Bradstreet and later was an Offshore Loan Officer with Chase Bank.
Acting Career[]
In the early 1980s, he began his career in acting. He got his start doing improv comedy and theater productions. He also appeared in various commercials in the U.S., Canada, and Europe.
By 1990, he was starting to appear on television shows as a guest star or recurring cast member. Some of his appearances include Home Improvement, Cheers, The Golden Girls, Seinfeld, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Everybody Hates Chris and Shameless.
He held a unique distinction for appearing on the NBC sitcom, Frasier in both the series premiere in 1994 and the series finale in 2004 as a non regular cast member playing the same character. In both episodes, he plays a moving man who brings up Martin Crane's chair to Frasier's apartment in the series premiere and then moves it out upon Martin leaving to live with his new wife in the series finale.
Personal Life[]
He and his wife, Leslie, owned their own deli, Olive It, in Westchester, Los Angeles, California. The business is still operating as of 2024.
Cleto was also a devoted father, and he served on the School Site Counsel Board at Kentwood School. In addition, Cleto coached both football and softball for the various teams of which his daughter, Sofia, and his son, Cleto, were members.
Death[]
Augusto died at his home in West Los Angeles, California on April 25, 2015, with his wife by his side. He was 60 years old. No cause of death was mentioned. He is survived by his wife Leslie, his daughter Sofia and son Cleto, as well as his sister Julia Davidow, her husband and their sons.
He is buried at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington, New Jersey.
