Deck The Halls is a traditional Christmas carol. The melody is of Welsh origin dating back to the sixteenth century, with its English lyrics composed by Scottish composer Thomas Oliphant in 1862.

It is heard on Married... with Children multiple times in season 4, 8, 10, and 11.

Appearances on MWC[]

In "It's a Bundyful Life (Part 1)", an instrumental version of the song is played at Kyoto National Bank during a Christmas party for the staff. Al desperately tries to get inside to withdraw money from his Christmas Club account. He sees Marcy dancing near the entrance and tries to get her attention. Unfortunately for Al, Marcy is too drunk and she eventually passes out, leaving him without any money for gifts.

In "The Worst Noel" an instrumental version can be heard when Marcy and later, Jefferson open the door to visit the Bundys to borrow ice and chairs from them. It is heard again later when a drunk Marcy comes in and kisses Al under the mistletoe before asking if they have some contraception that she could borrow.

In "I Can't Believe It's Butter", the song is heard three different times:

  • Ike sings the song while decorating Gary's Shoes & Accessories for Today's Woman with the other members of NO MA'AM for their Christmas party. A few moments later, Officer Dan references the lyrics by saying "Yeah, the tree is trimmed, the halls are decked and [Ike puts a pink ribbon on the tree], Ike has donned his gay apparel".
  • Later, an instrumental version of the song is played as the camera pans around the Bundy residence on Christmas Eve, as they now have a fully decorated tree with presents underneath it, Lucky chewing on a new rawhide and finally, the Bundys are shown eating dinner in the kitchen.
  • Finally, the rest of the NO MA'AM members sing the opening line as they arrive at the Bundy residence where Al and Griff had been hanging out at. As they are about to the Nudie Bar, Peg's Mom arrives and reveals herself to the guys as the phone sex operator, "Butter".

In "God Help Ye Merry Bundymen", an instrumental version of the song is played twice. First during the beginning when Al and Griff kneel in prayer before the store opens. Then later, during the ending credits over a still frame of the Bundys celebrating Christmas together.

Lyrics[]

Deck the halls with boughs of holly
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la
'Tis the season to be jolly
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

Don we now our gay apparel
Fa-la-la, la-la-la, la-la-la
Troll the ancient Yule-tide carol
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

See the blazing Yule before us
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la
Strike the harp and join the chorus
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

Follow me in merry measure
Fa-la-la, la-la-la, la-la-la
While I tell of Yule-tide treasure
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

Fast away the old year passes
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la
Hail the new year, lads and lasses
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

Sing we joyous, all together
Fa-la-la, la-la-la, la-la-la
Heedless of the wind and weather
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la
