Cultural References[]

  • One of the insults that Vinnie said Alixandra said about Charlie asking her out was "I'd rather be Gomer Pyle's love slave", referring to the dimwitted fictional character from the series, Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C..
  • Kelly tells Vinnie that she wants him to take her to the theaters to watch Dances with Wool confusing it with the 1990 Epic Western film, Dances with Wolves.
    • The film is referenced again later when Charlie and Vinnie try to convince Warren that The Godfather Part III was a much better film.
  • Throughout the episode, there are several references to the singer/actress, Madonna:
    • Vinnie tells Kelly that there is a Madonna themed party at the club, but she tells Vinnie that she thinks Madonna dresses like a tramp and doesn't have anything to wear like her, referring to the singer's various fashion choices over the years.
    • As Emmet escorts Sherry and Romona to the party, he tells them about "the time Sean Penn took a poke at me", referring to the actor and political activist who was married to Madonna from 1985 to 1989. As Emmet may be alluding to here, Penn has had several previous run ins with the law stemming from assault. It was also rumored that Penn assaulted Madonna multiple times during their marriage , though she denied those claims in 2015.
    • Sherry, in a pink dress and jewelry based on Marylyn Monroe's performance of "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend", reveals that she is dressed as Madonna from her 1986 music video for "Material Girl".
    • Romona, with a long ponytail, white corset with pointy bra and stockings, reveals that she is dressed as Madonna from the singer's Blond Ambition World Tour which took place in 1990.
    • Several of the women in the background at the Madonna party can be seen dressed in the same 1980s fashion that the singer wore in the 1985 film, Desperately Seeking Susan.
  • As Mona enters the club to confront Vinnie, Emmet chases her and calls her, "Gidget" a reference to the fictional female character, whose name is a portmanteau of "girl" and "midget".
  • Charlie tells Alixandra that he might end up sharing the same fate as Jimmy Hoffa an American labor union leader who mysteriously disappeared in 1975.
