Fever is a 1955 song originally performed by R n' B singer, Little Willie John, but became well known by the Peggy Lee version recorded in 1958.
It is heard in the Season 3 episode, "Can't Dance, Don't Ask Me".
Background[]
Known for its simple yet sultry tone using only a bass, light drums, finger snaps and vocals, it depicts the feelings someone gets when in love.
Besides the Peggy Lee version, it has been covered throughout the years by both male and female recording artists of various genres including Elvis Pressley, Michael Bublé, Bette Midler, Amander Lear, The Cramps, and Paul Revere & the Raiders.
Even MWC actress Katey Sagal has recorded a cover version of the song for the 2017 television film remake of Dirty Dancing.
The version used in the episode in the 1986 cover version recorded by Annabella Lwin, under the mononym, "Annabella", for her solo debut album. At the time, she was previously known for being the singer of the English New Wave band, Bow Wow Wow. It was also included on the Bow Wow Wow compilation album, The Best of Bow Wow Wow in 1996. This version uses synthesizers with electronic drums and distorted guitar riffs. It also omits the verse that references the romance between Pocahontas and Captain John Smith.
Appearance on Married.. with Children[]
In the season 3 episode, "Can't Dance, Don't Ask Me", after Kelly is forced to do a tap dance routine for the dance recital, she gives up hope of not being expelled. Just then, another dancer wearing a more revealing outfit compared to Kelly, walks past her. Kelly then takes her aside and threatens her.
When Kelly is finally called up to perform, she is now wearing the new dress and has Bud play "Fever". After a few seconds in, she sees the school janitor Bruno and convinces him to join her on stage as the song plays. The couple perform a sultry dance that excites the audience, even her principal, Mrs. Wicker who makes out with a horrified Al Bundy.
Once the song is over, the couple takes a bow as the audience cheers for them.
Lyrics[]
Never know how much I love you
Never know how much I care
When you put your arms around me
I get a fever that's so hard to bear
You give me fever
When you kiss me
Fever when you hold me tight
Fever! in the morning
Fever all through the night
Sun lights up the daytime
Moon lights up the night
I light up when you call my name
And you know I'm gonna treat you right
You give me fever
When you kiss me
Fever when you hold me tight
Fever! in the morning
Fever all through the night
Everybody's got the fever
That is something you all know
Fever isn't such a new thing
Fever started long ago
Romeo loved Juliet
Juliet, she felt the same
When he put his arms around her
He said, Julie, baby, you're my flame
Thou giveth fever
When we kisseth
Fever with thy flaming youth
Fever! I'm afire
Fever, yea, I burn, forsooth.
Cap'n Smith and Pocahontas
Had a very mad affair
When her daddy tried to kill him
She said, "Daddy, oh, don't you dare!
He gives me fever
With his kisses
Fever when he holds me tight
Fever! I'm his missus
Daddy, won't you treat him right?
Now you've listened to my story
Here's the point that I have made
Chicks were born to give you fever
Be it Fahrenheit or Centigrade
They give you fever
When you kiss them
Fever if you live and learn
Fever! till you sizzle
What a lovely way to burn
What a lovely way to burn
What a lovely way to burn
What a lovely way to burn
