Trumaine University (originally called and spelled as Tremaine University) is the university that Bud Bundy attends and eventually graduates from in 1996.

Background[]

Bud first mentions his plan to attend Trumaine to Marcy D'Arcy while visiting her at Kyoto National Bank. He shows her that he a $25,000 grant from the Rittenhoward Foundation to cover his tuition and expenses and opens a new checking account with her.[3] It also allowed him to move into a dormitory that he had to share with 3 attractive women. [3] Unfortunately, his parents got a hold of his grant money in an error, (as the bank put his grant money into the college savings account that Al and Peggy opened for Bud when he was an infant, instead of the new checking account that he just opened several minutes earlier) and spent it on items for themselves. Bud eventually finds out that his checks to the school bounced and is forced to move back home, but promises to continue attending the university. [3]

In Season 8, Bud joins a fraternity called "Gamma Gamma Sigma Pi" and participated in initiation rituals such as being spanked in public wearing a tutu with a trap door and using a toothbrush to scrub the toilet [6]. After he is welcomed in as a new member and plans to move into the frat house, an incident involving The Verminator trying to jump over a bonfire while on a motorcycle, destroys the frat house and forces Bud to move back home once again. [6] Though, as of "Change for a Buck" Bud was still part of the fraternity and the frat house had either moved to a smaller temporary location or the original house was still useable, since he stated that he was going to hang out there.

Just like when he was in high school, Bud is shown to be intelligent and earn good grades. He mentioned to his parents that he made the Dean's List, but they didn't seem to care and is then overshadowed when Kelly mentioned that she will be getting a raise at the extermination company. [7] He also had a chance to earn a scholarship to the renowned Oxford University in England, but blew his chance when he became distracted by various people as he tried to study, including Marcy's niece Amber, with whom he begins a relationship with later. [8]

Because of his high grades, he is asked to tutor Chad Dowling, the all star quarterback for the school who is not very bright. Chad eventually dates Kelly but ends up breaking his arm after she, unbeknownst to her, gave him a cursed stuffed animal. Al is then forced to pretend to be Chad and play the game in his place. [9]. Bud also tried to join a "Save The Brazilian Rainforest" program for extra credit (and see naked women there as well) but since the football team filled up the program, he is forced to go volunteer at the Virgin Hotline.

The campus also features a student run radio station known as W-HIP, with the main DJs Oliver and Mark. After the newly hired Dean of Students, Steve Rhoades is exposed by the two as a man who blackmailed the president of the school while working as his personal chauffer to get the job, the dean declares to two expelled from school. With some help from the dean's ex-wife, Marcy, the trio set out to protest. They have very little luck getting a crowd to help them out until they use a hot mic to air the love triangle between Bud, Trumaine Basketball Center, Nikolai and April, a student who is training to work in banking under Marcy. She eventually dumps both guys, as well as Marcy's offer to work at the bank, instead, opting to join Oliver and Mark at W-HIP.
