Jingle Bells (originally titled The One Horse Open Sleigh) is a Christmas song of American origin dating back to 1850. The song was originally written about people in Medford, Massachusetts who enjoyed watching sleigh races, but over time, it has become associated with Christmas.
Appearances on MWC[]
In "Christmas", the song is heard as Ray the Bartender turns on the radio. As the song continues, one of the Santas becomes frustrated, takes out his pistol and shoots the radio, getting the cheers of the other Santas drinking there. Shortly after that, an elf walks in singing the song to himself and takes a seat at the bar. The Santa takes out his pistol again and aims at the elf, but is stopped by Ray, who then kicks the elf out and tells him the Elf bar is down the street.
In "God Help Ye Merry Bundymen", the song is heard twice:
- The first time, Al and Griff sing the song in the New Market Mall while holding a sign that reads "Will Stop Singing for 25 Cents".
- The second time, an instrumental version plays in the second half of the ending credits after "Deck The Halls" plays over a still frame of the Bundys celebrating Christmas.
Lyrics[]
[Verse 1]
Dashing through the snow
In a one-horse open sleigh
O'er the fields we go
Laughing all the way
Bells on bobtails ring
Making spirits bright
What fun it is to ride and sing
A sleighing song tonight
[Chorus]
Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh, hey
Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh
[Verse 2]
A day or two ago
I thought I'd take a ride
And soon, Miss Fanny Bright
Was seated by my side
The horse was lean and lank
Misfortune seemed his lot
He got into a drifted bank
And then we got upsot
[Chorus]
Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh, hey
Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh
[Verse 3]
A day or two ago
The story I must tell
I went out on the snow
And on my back I fell
A gent was riding by
In a one-horse open sleigh
He laughed as there I sprawling lie
But quickly drove away
[Chorus]
Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh, hey
Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh
[Verse 4]
Now the ground is white
Go it while you're young
Take the girls tonight
And sing this sleighing song
Just get a bobtailed bay
Two forty as his speed
Hitch him to an open sleigh
And crack, you'll take the lead
[Chorus]
Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh, hey
Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh
