Lonely Boy is a 1958 pop song written and recorded by Paul Anka.
It is heard or mentioned three times on Married... with Children during season 8 in scenes involving Bud Bundy's love life.
Appearance on MWC[]
In "Proud to Be Your Bud" the song is played during the credits of Bud Bundy's Greatest Hits, a montage of Bud and his failed attempts at dating women.
In "Change for a Buck", Bud Bundy comes downstairs as Kelly listens to Radio Love Line during its "Listener Dedication Hour". After asking if he had any dedications in his name, Kelly sarcastically remarks that there were three for him: "Lonely Boy", "Like a Virgin", and "When a Man Loves a Rubber Woman".
In "Get Outta Dodge", the song is played when Bud tries to convince his date, Lisa Pruner, to have sex with him. He claps his hands to turn on the radio. Lisa then claps her hands to turn off the song and worries about Kelly walking in on them. After he sends on Kelly off to find the fictional character, Waldo, he turns the song back on. Lisa turns it off again and continues worrying, saying that the last time she was caught, she was grounded by her dad and the football team couldn't go to the Rose Bowl. He eventually convinces her that it will be OK and as they make out, Peg and Al arrive home. Peggy recognizes Lisa and informs her that she will tell her dad about this, causing Lisa to slap Bud across both sides of his face. The song begins to play once more as Lisa quickly leaves and Al makes his way to the couch with a smile on his face. He then claps his hand to turn off the radio and gives Bud some advice.
In both instances, only part of the first verse is heard.
Lyrics[]
I'm just a lonely boy, lonely and blue
I'm all alone with nothin' to do
I've got everything you could think of
But all I want is someone to love
Someone, yes, someone to love
Someone to kiss, someone to hold at a moment like this
I'd like to hear somebody say
I'll give you my love each night and day
I'm just a lonely boy, lonely and blue
I'm all alone with nothin' to do
I've got everything you could think of
But all I want is someone to love
Somebody, somebody, somebody, please send her to me
I'll make her happy, just wait and see
I prayed so hard to the heavens above
That I'm gonna find someone to love
I'm just a lonely boy, lonely and blue
I'm all alone with nothin' to do
I've got everything you could think of
But all I want is someone to love
