Philip is a wealthy man who ruins Seven's birthday by buying out the park the Bundys were going to celebrate at in the Season 7 (1992/93) episode, "Every Bundy Has a Birthday"

He is played by actor Andrew Masset.

Description[]

Phillip and his family are the exact opposite of the Bundys. Unlike the Bundys, they are rich, and buy a local park that keeps the Bundys from celebrating Seven's birthday. He is also noted to be a kung fu master.

Background[]

After Peggy Bundy decides to celebrate Seven's birthday on the same day as Al Bundy, the family goes out to celebrate at a local public park. As Al is about to grill the single hot dog that the family is going to share, Philip approaches Al and demands to know what they are doing. He then informs Al that he has rented the entire park for his son, Brian to celebrate his birthday and suggests that Al "take [his] pathetic wienie and go elsewhere".

Al tells Philip that they are at a public park and that it is impossible for him to buy out land that is meant for the people. Philip then tells Al that Brian's birthday party will start shortly, and that he will physically throw Al out should he continue to stand there. Seeing that as a challenge, Al calls Philip "Goldfinger", puts his fist up and tells him "Let's rock!". Just as they take their fighting positions, Philip's wife, Gwen interrupts them and warns Al that her husband happens to be a 5th degree master in kung fu. Al brings up his point again, noting that while he is not rich or happy, the park is meant for the people and as such, the Bundys deserve a spot there.

As it turns out, Philip lets the Bundys get their own little spot, in a small square portion of land, blocked off with caution tape and placed next to the trash can, with a sign above them that reads "PUBLIC AREA - QUIET PLEASE - RICH PEOPLE HAVING FUN". The Bundys are laughed at by the rich people and are forced to observe their party from a distance, while also trying to make the most out of it for the sake of Seven.

While Peggy gives Seven some special treats, Kelly, Bud and Al complain that Seven can never be a true Bundy, as he has never faced the same rejection that the trio had in the past. As Peg tells the trio that Seven is going to venture out and play with the other kids at the party, Philip comes by carrying Seven and throws him back in with the rest of the Bundys, reminding them that they need to keep him where he belongs.

As Seven and Peg complain that they want to go home now after how they've been treated, Al has a change of heart. He takes Seven by the hand, tears down the tape barrier and walks right into the party. Philip confronts them once again, telling them that they need to go back to where they belong and shows him his permit to remind Al that he rented the entire park. Al takes the permit and has Bud eat it in front of them, to show Philip that Bundys don't care about permits. Al proceeds to inform Philip that Seven wants a swing at the hanging piñata and he will take a hot dog and steak for himself, declaring that the park will now belong to the people once again. Enraged, Philip tells Al "Eat hot Gucci, pal!" and launches a front snap kick, but Al is able to catch it.

Seeing that Al has the advantage now, Philip becomes nervous and changes his tune, offering Al $100 to let him go. Despite the offer and Peg's plea to take it, Al declines, noting that since everyone in his family forgot that it was actually his birthday he decides to give himself a present and knock out Philip. Al then leads the rest of the Bundys in an all out brawl, with even Seven proving his worth by knocking out Brian after calling Al a baboon for ruining his birthday party.

Philip is last seen laying unconscious on the ground with the rest of his family as the Bundys celebrate Seven being a true Bundy and let him hit the piñata.
