Richard Gurman is a writer and producer.

On Married... with Children, he served as a writer and producer during its 11 season run.

Early Life[]

He graduated from University of California, Berkley, earning a bachelor’s degree in sociology and a master’s degree in journalism.

Career[]

Prior to working on MWC, he had worked on sitcoms such as Laverne & Shirley, Happy Days, Diff'rent Strokes, Mork & Mindy, 227, and The Facts of Life.

He helped write a total of seventeen episodes of Married... with Children, and served as a producer, in some capacity, for 115 episodes in total. He was a supervising producer from the "Pilot", and wrote "Have You Driven a Ford Lately?" as his first MWC script. During the first and second seasons, he frequently collaborated on writing episodes with Katherine Green.

He was also involved with the International Remakes of MWC. In the Russian remake, Schastlivy vmeste (Счастливы вместе), after the series decided to use all-new stories after remaking all 252 of MWC, he, along with Green and several others writers from the original show, helped out to keep the continuity going. In the Israeli remake, Nesuim Plus (נשואים פלוס), he was flown to Israel and supervised 10 episodes, 2 of which were using scripts that he had originally written. He was also credited as a writer for 4 episodes of the Spanish remake, Matrimonio con hijos.

Post MWC, he continued working as a writer and producer for shows such as Nick Freno: Licensed Teacher, Shasta McNasty, Still Standing and Dog with a Blog.

As of 2017, he is a producer at Crewneck Productions, having worked on the documentary films, This is Bob Hope and The Happy Days of Garry Marshall.

In April 2024, he released the book, Married… With Children vs. the World. The book offers a behind-the-scenes look at the show's production as well as interviews with cast and crew members, as well as network executives and even Terry Rakolta, the housewife who led the Rakolta Boycott that nearly got the show cancelled.[1][2]
