The Cow Kicked Nelly is a traditional Irish folk song sung by Al and later the rest of the Bundys while they are stuck on the freeway in We'll Follow the Sun.

Al sing the song for the family to keep them entertained, until Gerry, the driver in the car next to them, tells Al to shut up. Hearing this, the rest of the Bundys join in and sing even louder to annoy their neighbor. Gerry interrupts them again and warns them that if they don't shut up, Al will be gumming the song, leading into an all out brawl between the two families.

It is sung to the tune of the Irish ballad "The Old Rose Tree", whose melody also inspired the traditional American folk song, "Turkey in the Straw".

Lyrics as heard on the show[]

Ohhh...
The cow kicked Nelly in the belly in the barn
Oh, the cow kicked Nelly in the belly in the barn
Oh, the cow kicked Nelly in the belly in the barn
And the farmer said it would do no harm.

Second verse,
Same as the first
A little bit louder and a little bit worse...
