Usage on Married... with Children[]

In the Season 1 episode, "Married... without Children", After Al and Peggy arrive at the Come 'n Go Motel, they talk about whether they should call the kids, as Al turns on the television to watch a boxing match. After holding each other, Al reminds her that they are on vacation and don't have to rush things or worry about the kids barging in. Just then, the television announcer is heard mentioning that the Star-Spangled banner will play and for the audience to stand. An instrumental version of the song's opening is heard and Al quickly throws Peg onto the bed. Later, Peggy sings the third verse after Al and her decide to stay the full night, leaving the kids in the hands of Marcy and Steve.

In the Season 4 episode, "Hot off the Grill", Al makes Peggy sing the anthem following his rant about what Labor Day means to him. She is heard singing the last lines of the song before Al officially starts to cook Bundy Burgers for their Labor Day backyard barbecue.

In the Season 7 episode, "Go for the Old", a trio of elderly cheerleaders sing the last lines at the start of the Senior Championship games.

In the Season 8 episode, "A Tisket, a Tasket, Can Peg Make a Basket?", Kelly, dressed as singer Tina Turner, comes out and sings before the start of the NBA All Star game. During each line, she pauses and makes suggestive remarks to NBA player Vlade Divac to get him to go out with her. Her parents are in the audience, with Peggy trying to point out that it is Kelly in disguise, but Al tries to ignore it and claim that her version is still better than Roseanne's. Eventually Kelly is taken away by security.

Lyrics[]

Oh, say can you see
By the dawn's early light
What so proudly we hailed
At the twilight's last gleaming?

Whose broad stripes and bright stars
Through the perilous fight
O'er the ramparts we watched
Were so gallantly streaming?

And the rockets' red glare
The bombs bursting in air
Gave proof through the night
That our flag was still there

O say, does that star-spangled
Banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free
And the home of the brave?
